Terrorist ambush in J&K's Reasi: 9 pilgrims killed, 33 injured in attack on bus

On Sunday evening, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, near the Rajouri border. The driver, hit by gunfire, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into a deep gorge near the Shiv Khori shrine. The ambush left nine people dead, including a child, and injured 33 others.
Immediate response
Authorities quickly responded to the attack. The Reasi district police, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma, stated that the area has been secured and a search operation is underway to find the attackers. The rescue operation, aided by local villagers, ensured that all passengers were evacuated by 8:10 PM. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals: 13 to the district headquarters hospital in Reasi, 5 to the Community Health Centre in Treyath, and 15 to the Government Medical College in Jammu.

Details of the attack
The attack occurred as the bus was traveling from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra. Terrorists opened fire in Teryath village of Pouni area, causing the driver to lose control and the bus to fall into a gorge. The police confirmed this was a terror attack. The identities of the victims have not been confirmed yet, but they are believed to be from Uttar Pradesh.
A joint operation by the Police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been launched at the attack site to pursue the terrorists. This incident follows a similar tragic accident on May 30, when a bus from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district fell into a gorge in the Akhnoor area of Jammu, resulting in 22 deaths and 69 injuries.
